Breast Surgery - Types of breast surgery (inverted nipple, nipple reduction, revision surgery etc)

Types of Breast Surgery

Inverted Nipple

Inverted nipple is when the nipple is not protruded outward but buried inside the breast. Even though sometimes it is acquired, mostly it is innate cause. Fiber band is formed under the nipple which is pulling it, or the soft-tissue of the bottom that supports the nipple appears to be the cause. This kind of inverted nipple causes not only a matter of beauty, but also disturbance of lactation, and can become a cause of breast blood congestion of mastitis.

Classification of Inverted Nipple

* When nipple goes in and out without external stimulation

* When nipple does not come out even with external stimulation such as breast compressor

* When nipple is not coming out even by force

Nipple Reduction

Generally, Asians' normal diameter of a nipple is about 10mm, and the height is 7~10mm. Nipple obese is when the size of the nipple exceeds the size of its normality compared to the size of breasts. This looks awkward, and causes disturbance of lactation, so it is better to be corrected

Revision Surgery

Revision surgery is done when breast shape or size is dissatisfying from previous surgery, or due the capsular contracture, asymmetry, implant rupture kind of problems. As breast revision surgery is more complicated than primary surgery, it is very important to undergo revision surgery from specialists who have abundant revision surgery experience.

Causes of Breast Revision Surgery

1. Capsular Contracture
- Most common reason which is to face change in breast shape, get hardened or feel pain

2. Obvious Asymmetry
- Asymmetry in breast size, shape, nipple location and etc.

3. Implant Rupture

4. Unnatural Shape
- Unnaturalness due to complete exfoliation or excessive exfoliation

5. Dissatisfaction in Size
- Unnaturally sized or small volume

Revision Surgery due to Capsular Contracture

The most common cause of breast revision surgery is capsular contracture. When implant is being inserted to our body, it forms films due to defense mechanism. But sometimes, films are excessively produced, get hard and thick to cause this symptom. It is important to put much effort to prevent capsular contracture and avoid another surgery as this is the main reason for breast revision surgery

1. Causes of Capsular Contracture

>Causes may be; Inflammation, infection, hematoma, foreign substance, body constitution or other various reasons

2. Stages of Capsular Contracture : Divided into 1~4 classes, and surgery is necessary for classes 3~4

>Class1: When the breasts are soft with no big difference in feeling with normal breasts when touched

>Class2: When the breasts are a bit hardened and implants are touched but no problem is seen outwardly

>Class3: When the breasts are hardened, implants are easily touched and implants' shape is noticeable

>Class4: When the breasts are stiff, with pain, and severe strain is noticeable outwardly
